Becoming a parent is one of the biggest adventures a person can embark on. While it’s not without its challenges, every veteran parent will tell you that it’s always worth it. If you’ve got a friend, loved one, or family member expecting a new baby it’s important to send them well wishes before they embark on this new adventure. Baby showers are a Western tradition that involve giving gifts to the new parents-to-be before the baby arrives. Traditionally, these were a women-only affair but nowadays many baby showers include the dad-to-be and other male members of extended family and friends. Gifts include many items from keepsakes, baby necessities, flowers, mum necessities and more. Writing a thoughtful message and card is a wonderful way to commemorate this milestone moment and to send your best wishes for the new family.
What to Write in a Baby Shower Card
It’s difficult to write from the heart for such a momentous occasion but the best rule of thumb is to be as sincere as possible when wishing the new parents and baby well. Avoid giving unsolicited advice, instead offer your services or availability to the new parents or if they have any questions. Use formality at your discretion. If you know the new parents well, jokes and nicknames would generally be welcomed but if it is a more formal affair, use more formal greetings, messages, and quotes. Even if the gender of the baby is known, try to avoid gender stereotypes and be mindful of the parents if they wish for gender neutrality.
