The world is a strange place right now with many of us spending more time at home than we would like to. All of our lives have been put on hold while we work together to fight the virus. I’ve been lucky to have a life that involves a lot of travel for work and pleasure, visiting different countries to find great gifts to add to our unique and curated collection at Give Gift Boutique Hong Kong. One place that had a big impact on me was Denmark, a beautiful land of kind people, amazing architecture and a way of life that is to be envied. Their shops, gifts, homes are all a reflection of their calm cool attitude and great style, it’s so well known that they have a word for it Hygge (pronounced hue-gah).
Hygge is more than just a style, it describes a mood and feeling that comes with taking from ordinary things we can use each and every day and transforming them to something more meaningful even perfect. I instantly fell in love with the idea of Hygge. And right now its something we all need in our lives, so with many of us stuck at home I wanted to share some ideas on how to Hygge up your life and create a calm and peaceful world at home.
We are going to need a few things, Flowers, Tea, Candles and some comfy clothes.
Flowers
Fresh flowers is a part of Hygge we at Give Gift boutique took to straight away! Proven to increase happiness at home and reduces stress and anxiety, flowers are one of the best things to fill your home with. Hygge is to make yourself feel good and a beautiful bouquet of flowers can do just that. As Hong Kong leading florist and floral experts, we know just the type of flowers to brighten up your home, but why stop there we can send flowers to your family and friends during this time to brighten up their world too!
Tea
Being British this was the next thing to catch my eye, we know well that a good cup of tea solves all the worlds problems. The Danes have inspired me to take it a step further, Hygge is all about feeling good so we can mix up our tea selection with fresh fruity and healthy flavours. Our gift selection at Give Gift Boutique now often features teas to warm the heart and soul, so when trying to get Hygge grab a cup of tea!
Candles
Candlelit dinners, candlelit baths, or a candle at night in the corner of the room while you enjoy some music, all of these sound fantastic! Hygge wants to make you feel good and there is something about a flickering flame that soothes the soul. Add to your candle collection with some fresh scented candles and you will have that extra layer of Hygge. Many of our wellness hampers feature candles for this exact reason.
Comfy Clothes
A stressful day at the office suited and booted causes us to link certain clothes with certain emotions. To feel Hygge at home it’s important to have some comfy clothes to lounge in. Many of us who are currently having to work from home may spend all our day in the same comfy outfit, is that truly Hygge? Rember we want to take everyday things and make them special, so why not try dressing for work as you would normally and when you clock off at the end of the day slip into your comfiest clothes, this will help turn your home office back into a cosy sanctuary.
These are just a few of the ideas I picked up when travelling in Denmark, hopefully, soon we will all be back to normal and able to enjoy life to the full, until then remember do like the Danes… keep it Hygge.
